Chicago Bucket List: Cafe Iberico

Date Night at Cafe Iberico

We’re at our two month mark of time left in Chicago. Both excited and sad to leave, we want to make the most of our time left by saying goodbye to some of our favorite places and making a point to go see the places/things we’ve always meant to before we leave. I made a rough list of things on our Chicago Bucket List awhile back, so now that the clock is ticking, we’re really going to start checking things off.

One of our favorite restaurants in Chicago is Cafe Iberico. We’ve been here a couple times, but we wanted to make sure to go at least one more time before we left (and we’ll probably squeeze in another trip before the end of June). This is the perfect restaurant for a date night or for splitting pitchers of sangria with friends (I’ve also heard it’s an awesome place to watch soccer games). This place is HUGE (advertised as the largest Spanish restaurant in the world), but it still gets  pretty busy, especially on Saturday nights so even though there may be a wait, it is definitely worth it. Also because it’s so busy, it does get a little loud, but I think that just adds to the authentic atmosphere and the awesome people-watching.

Cafe Iberico is the best tapas restaurant in the city. It has the presentation of a fancier restaurant, but the food and wine list is affordable and the food is amazing! Trust us, as two people who have traveled to Spain several times, we know good tapas.

My favorite part of the restaurant is that it’s divided into different regions of Spain and each room takes on a different authentic Spanish experience. Each room reminds me of a different restaurant/bar/bodega I’ve actually seen in Spain and I absolutely love that this restaurant is frequented by native Spanish people (not only does that prove that the food is amazing, but I get to eavesdrop on Spanish conversations like a creep).

  1. Mmmmm….Cafe Iberico. Never a bad idea! Took a look at your Bucket List – it all looks achievable (though looks like you’ll have to make a special trip next St. Patrick’s Day to see the river dyed green). Good luck!

    • Haha yeah I actually saw the river last year, but I was hoping to go again this year so I could write a post about it (and Alex hadn’t seen it before). But who knows, maybe I’ll come back for it again :)
